Daikin Leads The Way In Responsible Sourcing, Second European Factory Receives Bes6001 Certificate

Daikin Europe N.V. has achieved a world first by being the only HVAC manufacturer to achieve the internationally respected British Research Establishment (BRE) BES 6001 responsible sourcing standard for its European factories in Belgium and the Czech Republic to date. The BRE BES 6001 Framework Standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products is the leading framework used by product manufacturers to demonstrate the responsible sourcing of their products. The standard encompasses organisational and supplier management systems alongside environmental and social characteristics of the business. bes6001_logo

Achieving a higher BREEAM rating with Daikin  The BES 6001 standard was developed by the BRE to demonstrate responsible sourcing throughout the supply chain by proving product stewardship against social, economic and environmental sustainability criteria. It is recognised by BREEAM, the world’s leading building rating scheme, currently applicable in over 70 countries. By choosing certified products from Daikin’s factories, specifiers and contractors can be safe in the knowledge they have been responsibly sourced and manufactured to the required standards necessary to achieve maximum ratings. Thanks to the certification of Daikin Belgium and Czech Republic factory, the VRV system, Sky Air system, Daikin Altherma system, split system and a range of smaller chillers are BES 6001 certified and can help reaching higher BREEAM rating for buildings. Integrated approach For Daikin the achieving the endorsement has involved the collaboration of several internal specialist departments: “This is a significant endorsement for Daikin products. Over the past ten years we have invested significantly in reducing our organisational environmental impact - and the embodied impact we pass on to the users of our products. The Daikin Group strives to offer products which utilise the latest technologies in temperature control, to provide energy-efficentl comfort . Achieving The BES 6001 standard has enabled us to integrate range of supply chain management practices with our own environmental and social performance into a single consistent framework which supports our clients in the BREEAM process.” Bernard Dehertogh of Daikin Europe. Market-led development of innovative products The Daikin Europe Group has five production facilities across Europe. Each facility adds to the company’s capacity, ensuring optimised lead times to all markets. Daikin Europe N.V.’s production site in Ostend, Belgium, which achieved its BREEAM status in May, is the most advanced plant of its kind in Europe with over 135.000 m² of production and administrative space dedicated to manufacturing heat pump, air conditioning and refrigeration solutions. Daikin’s production capacity was expanded in 2014, with the establishment of Daikin Industries Czech Republic (DICz) sro, a production plant at Plzen. A mass production facility for residential air conditioners, the Czech facility is the latest Daikin Group facility to achieve the prestigious BREEAM status. Commenting on Daikin’s latest achievement, Dr Shamir Ghumra, Head of Responsible Sourcing at BRE said, "This is a significant milestone for the construction products sector. Early adopters of the BES 6001 standard have had shorter and less complex supply chains. Daikin has demonstrated a genuine commitment to responsible sourcing, proving that certification can be achieved even for more complex products by re-visiting the many components of their air conditioning units made in both Belgium and the Czech Republic to secure certification."
