At the German Design Award 2016 the energy-saving fan for evaporators by ebm-papst has been given a "Special Mention" award in the "Energy" category for its outstanding design quality. This award is given to products with a design that has especially successful aspects or solutions.
"A highly-functional, cleverly designed product. Its strengths are a high degree of effectiveness, a particularly high level of reliability, and a long lifespan." The award was presented on February 12, 2016 in Frankfurt. Gunter Streng, Head of Development A at ebm-papst Mulfingen: "We are thrilled with the award, because not only does the fan consume 30% less energy, it also saves about 50% in material in the manufacturing process. We already made this a top priority in the design."
The fan for evaporators takes a holistic approach to achieve greater efficiency than a solution composed of individual components. The use of less material is equivalent to saving energy in production. The energy-saving fan was designed as a complete unit. This reduces the amount of steel and copper used by 50%, compared to conventional solutions with internal rotor motors.
The basis of the increased efficiency is the GreenTech EC motor and the one-piece impeller in reliable HyBlade® technology with profiled blade geometries and winglets. Thanks to the EC motor, it consumes 30% less energy than the average evaporator fans with conventional AC motors. Assembly by means of one-piece mounting brackets is relatively easy because of the flexible mounting hole circles. This design ensures that the customer can retain the appearance of its existing application with a guard grille. Even in the case of retrofitting, the evaporator unit does not have to be disassembled.
The German Design Award, initiated in 2012, is one of the most widely acclaimed design competitions in the world that today enjoys an excellent reputation well beyond the circle of experts. 3,400 submissions were presented to the Jury in 2016. Gold, Winner, and Special Mention awards are given in each of the competition categories.
