ebm‑papst Invests €30 Million in New Site in Romania

New Oradea facility to unify production, R&D, and service operations under one roof.

ebm‑papst is investing €30 million (approx. $32 million) in a new production and development center in Oradea, Romania, marking a strategic expansion of its European operations. The company held a groundbreaking ceremony on April 29 to launch construction of the site, which will consolidate existing facilities and support further growth in air and heating technology.

The new site is located on a 55,000 m² (592,000 ft²) plot in Oradea’s Industrial Park II. The first construction phase will cover 20,000 m² (215,000 ft²) and include manufacturing, warehousing, office space, and a research and development center. Completion is scheduled for May 2026. An additional 10,000 m² (107,600 ft²) expansion has been factored into the long-term site plan.

Product Focus and Growth Plans

The facility will focus on developing and manufacturing intelligent, energy-efficient fans for commercial refrigeration applications. ebm‑papst aims to grow its workforce in Romania from 500 to nearly 1,000 employees by 2030.

Frank Mayer, COO of the ebm‑papst Group and CEO Air Technology Europa, stated: "At the new site, we will develop and produce intelligent and highly efficient fans with low energy consumption and a long service life, primarily for commercial refrigeration technology."

Strategic Development

Since its establishment in 2017, ebm‑papst Romania has grown into a key location with an annual turnover of nearly €70 million (approx. $75 million). The investment reflects the company’s "local-for-local" strategy, aiming to strengthen regional supply and innovation capabilities in Europe.

"The new building is a further milestone in the strategic orientation of the ebm‑papst Group with its focus on the core segments of air and heating technology," said Klaus Geißdörfer, CEO of the ebm‑papst Group. "At the same time, the construction project will strengthen our production and research and development activities in Europe."

Delia Ungur, Managing Director of ebm‑papst Romania, added: "Today we are not just laying the foundation stone for a building, but for a strong future for ebm‑papst Romania, characterized by innovation, sustainability and a deep commitment to our employees and partners."

The new site will merge the company’s existing production facility and Group Service Center. Since 2018, ebm‑papst Romania has expanded its manufacturing capabilities to include electric motors for intralogistics, medical, automation, and automotive sectors, and recently added an R&D and IT center, along with specialized competence centers for marketing, procurement, sustainability, and quality.
