ebm‑papst Opens HighSpeed Technical Center to Advance Turbo Compressor Innovation

The ebm‑papst Group, a global leader in fans and motors, has inaugurated its HighSpeed Technical Center, a state-of-the-art facility focused on the development and production of energy-efficient turbo compressors. The center, located in Mulfingen, was unveiled during a ceremony attended by prominent dignitaries, including Baden-Württemberg State Premier Winfried Kretschmann, and members of the German Bundestag and State Parliament.

This facility represents a €60 million investment since 2015, with €15 million allocated to its building and technological infrastructure. The HighSpeed Technical Center has already created 60 new jobs, with a dedicated interdisciplinary team of 70 employees tasked with developing compact, oil-free turbo compressors. These compressors aim to set new standards for efficiency, noise performance, and sustainability.

A Symbol of Innovation and Sustainability

Dr. Klaus Geißdörfer, CEO of the ebm‑papst Group, emphasized the center's importance in advancing the company’s strategy. “This HighSpeed Technical Center is a symbol of innovation and technology leadership, making it an important element of our ‘Making the Future Together’ strategy,” he stated. The strategy focuses on international segments such as ventilation, heating technology, digitalization, and sustainability.

State Premier Winfried Kretschmann highlighted the broader implications of the investment, stating, “The investment by ebm‑papst in the new HighSpeed Technical Center represents a strong commitment to the Baden-Württemberg site and to good jobs for the future. The company is actively addressing global opportunities, such as the growing demand for compressors in heat pumps essential for climate-neutral heating systems.”

Advanced Manufacturing for Sustainable Solutions

The HighSpeed Technical Center bridges product development and series production, focusing on flexible processes to create prototypes, small batches, and scalable production. The turbo compressors developed here are designed for applications like air conditioners and heat pumps, prioritizing efficiency, durability, and minimal environmental impact.

These compressors use natural refrigerants like propane, reducing the quantity of refrigerant required. Their lightweight, low-maintenance design ensures reduced current consumption, contributing to resource conservation and climate protection.

Shareholder Jan Philippiak stated, “At ebm‑papst, we aim to create sustainable and intelligent solutions for a better climate, for people, and to protect our environment. The innovative HighSpeed turbo compressors are an excellent example of this.” Fellow shareholder Ralf Sturm added, “The extensive investment in this high-tech HighSpeed Technical Center reflects the clear commitment of the shareholders and management to securing the long-term success of ebm‑papst.”

HighSpeed Turbo Compressors Gain Industry Attention

First showcased at the 2023 Hannover Messe trade fair, the HighSpeed turbo compressors have attracted significant interest from customers. The products exemplify ebm‑papst's commitment to resource-efficient, high-tech solutions and its role in addressing global environmental challenges.

With the HighSpeed Technical Center, ebm‑papst is poised to expand its product range while reinforcing its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and meeting the needs of future markets.
