EDF and TAQA Geothermal Sign MoU to Promote Geothermal Energy in Saudi Arabia
EDF Saudi Arabia and TAQA Geothermal Energy Company have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on geothermal energy technologies in Saudi Arabia. The partnership aims to explore geothermal power generation, HVAC applications, and Compressed Air Energy Storage.

The agreement was signed during the third edition of the PIF Private Sector Forum at the King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center in Riyadh. Omar Aldaweesh, CEO of EDF Saudi Arabia, and Meshary Al-Ayed, CEO of TAQA Geothermal Energy Company, signed the MoU.

Gudmundur Thoroddsson, Chief Technology Officer of TAQA Geothermal and Chairman of Reykjavik Geothermal, also attended the signing ceremony.

This collaboration seeks to develop innovative and decarbonized energy technologies in Saudi Arabia, focusing on geothermal solutions for cleaner power and efficient cooling systems. By combining their expertise, EDF and TAQA Geothermal aim to enhance the Kingdom’s renewable energy sector and tap into the potential of geothermal resources.

The partnership aligns with Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy goals, creating opportunities for sustainable energy solutions and reinforcing the country’s focus on energy innovation.
