EHPA opens applications for 2025 Heat Pump Awards

The European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) has opened applications for the 2025 edition of the Heat Pump Awards. Projects can be submitted until 15 August, with the aim of recognising impactful and innovative heat pump initiatives across Europe and beyond.

The awards highlight advancements in clean and efficient heating and cooling across five categories: Heat Pump City of the Year, DecarBuilding, DecarbIndustry, Lighthouse Heat Pump, and People’s Choice. EHPA has simplified the submission process with a new step-by-step guide and FAQ section to encourage broader participation.

The 2024 winners were recently showcased in an EHPA webinar sponsored by Italian manufacturer Frascold. In Finland, the city of Turku received the Heat Pump City of the Year Award for a student housing project that repurposes excess heat from district cooling into district heating using high-performance heat pumps. The system supplies 120% of local energy needs and operates with zero-emission heating and dynamic pricing.

In Spain, the HAPPENING project in Pasaia won the DecarBuilding Award. The project demonstrated retrofitting of multi-family buildings using a cascade heat pump system, combining central air-to-water units with individual water-to-water pumps. This approach led to up to 75% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and improved energy efficiency.

Arriba Technologies received the Lighthouse Heat Pump Award for a UK hospital retrofit that delivers heating, cooling, and hot water via heat pumps integrated with rooftop solar. The plant operates without backup boilers and supplies an entire surgical wing, highlighting the resilience of modular system designs.

The DecarbIndustry Award was awarded to Aneo Industry in Norway for its FRIGG steam-producing heat pump. The system reuses moist air waste heat from feed production to generate live steam, marking the first full-scale installation of its kind.

In the Netherlands, the People’s Choice Award went to Organon for its pharmaceutical facility retrofit in Oss. The site uses Trane heat pumps and heat recovery systems to avoid 243,000 cubic metres of gas annually through low-carbon heating and building upgrades.

The Heat Pump Awards are sponsored by Frascold SpA.
