EU-backed EXQUISHEAT targets food industry decarbonisation with industrial heat pumps

EXQUISHEAT, an initiative co-funded by the European Union, aims to decarbonise the food industry by promoting the use of industrial heat pumps. The project aims to overcome barriers such as low awareness and integration with existing industrial processes by developing standardised and replicable solutions with up to six times higher efficiency than fossil fuel boilers.

The project focuses on four key production processes: hot water production for sanitisation, pasteurisation, evaporation/drying and refrigeration. EXQUISHEAT also promotes long-term collaboration between the food and technology sectors through a dedicated platform.

The consortium brings together nine organisations from different countries: VEOLIA (Belgium), project coordinator; Dr. Jakob Energy Research (JER) (Germany), technical coordinator; EHPA (European Heat Pump Association) (Belgium), communication and dissemination coordinator; NAPE (Poland), National Agency for Energy Conservation; GEA (Germany), refrigeration engineering and technologies; FPI (Food-Processing Initiative e. V.) (Germany); AIT (Austrian Institute of Technology) (Austria); Clúster Alimentario de Galicia (Spain); and CLIVET (Italy).
