A report from the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) highlights widespread support across Europe for companies investing in industrial-sized heat pumps. Financial incentives, including grants, loans, and tax rebates, are available in 24 surveyed countries, such as Norway, Switzerland, and the UK.
Capable of reaching temperatures up to 200°C, these heat pumps are used effectively in industries like paper, dairy, textiles, and wood. They play a critical role in decarbonizing 60% of industrial energy use dedicated to heat, essential for meeting the EU’s 2050 climate targets.
Despite existing support, barriers like limited awareness must be overcome to increase heat pump adoption. Paul Kenny, EHPA's director general, emphasized waste heat recovery using high-temperature heat pumps as a proven solution to reduce emissions and replace fossil fuels.
The European Commission plans to release the 'Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act' soon, promoting the green transition. This week, Prague hosts the ‘Industrial Heat Pumps Prague’ event, focusing on expediting heat pump roll-out, with EHPA as a strategic partner.
