Europe’s leading heat pump initiatives were recognised at the 2025 Heat Pump Awards, held on 23 September in Brussels during the annual Heat Pump Forum. Organised by the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), the ceremony celebrated five standout projects demonstrating the role of heat pumps in decarbonising heating and cooling across sectors.
The “Heat Pump City of the Year” award went to Calefa Oy, together with Savon Voima and Rejlers, for a project in Finland using river water as a renewable heat source. The award was received by Mikko Heikkilä of Calefa Oy and Kari Anttonen of Savon Voima.
In the industrial category “DecarbIndustry,” the award was presented to Pelagia AS and its partners Aneo Industry and Enerin. Their fishmeal factory project in Måløy, Norway, recovers waste heat to produce green process steam. Christian Schlemminger, Chief of Operations at Aneo Industry, accepted the award.
Smart Heating Oy received the “DecarbBuilding” award for its hybrid heating project in Helsinki. The system integrates geothermal energy, waste heat recovery, and district heating, supported by smart automation. Arto Nissilä and Kaisu Halonen of Smart Heating Oy accepted the award.
The “Lighthouse Heat Pump” award was awarded to VIA University College and partners for “The Thermoroad” in Denmark, a project combining 5th generation district heating and cooling with a Sustainable Urban Drainage System. Søren Erbs Poulsen of VIA University College accepted the award.
The “People’s Choice” award went to Trane Technologies and Infomaniak for a data centre project in Geneva. The installation transforms waste heat into district heating, supplying energy for up to 6,000 homes or 20,000 daily showers. Dominique Silva of Trane Technologies accepted the award.
Since 2024, winners have also received a custom LEGO heat pump set designed by Little Machine.
