Eurovent has released a new recommendation focused on ventilation systems in new and renovated residential buildings, aligning with the objectives of the recast Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD 2024/1275). The document aims to support the implementation of harmonised indoor air quality (IAQ) and ventilation standards across EU Member States.
The recommendation emphasises the importance of mechanical ventilation not only in new constructions but also during major renovations. It notes that improved airtightness, if not matched with adequate ventilation, can negatively affect occupant health and well-being.
Developed by the Product Group Residential Ventilation Systems (PG-RVS), the publication includes technical guidance on ventilation technologies, practical application examples, and comparisons of energy savings potential between mechanical and natural ventilation across various climate zones.
Arie Veldhuijzen, Vice-Chairperson of Eurovent PG-RVS, stated: “It is important that the recast EPBD contains provisions for IAQ and ventilation and links this to health. In so doing, it is essential to clarify how this can be applied in practice. With this recommendation, we demonstrate how ventilation systems work and which ventilation solution is suitable for which situation. This is important for many people, not only for those involved in the implementation of the recast EPBD, but for anyone involved in new construction or renovation.”
The document is available for free download from the Eurovent website.
