AREA has co-signed a joint industry letter calling on the European Commission to reconsider its interpretation of the export provision for "pre-charged equipment". So far, the Commission has considered that such equipment is included in the phase-down quota.
Whilst the industries reaffirmed their support to the phase-down scheme, they highlighted the fact that the Commission's interpretation entails disproportionate negative effects on European industries' competitiveness in view of the very low environmental impact of the refrigerant pre-charged (less than 1% of the total quota). The industries therefore call on the Commission to review its position and adapt the HFC Register.
