FrieslandCampina concentrates part of its distribution in Meppel (NL)

A distribution centre of FrieslandCampina will be built on a parcel of 70,000 square metres in Meppel. These activities are presently spread over four warehouses in Hoogeveen, Leeuwarden, Meppel and Veendam (all NL). Mayor Korteland, alderman Ten Hulscher and Gerard Menting, Corporate Director Real Estate of FrieslandCampina, signed a declaration of intent today. Gerard Menting explains why Meppel was selected for this: ‘As from November, various options in the region were extensively investigated and here the good accessibility both by road and by water, the possibilities for future expansion and the favourable central location with respect to our production locations of Meppel eventually settled the matter. Besides, an important contribution is made to the reduction of the emission of CO2.’ The distribution centre of FrieslandCampina includes 31,000 square metres for storage and transfer of dairy products intended for the export markets and it will offer room for 45,000 pallets. The centre will provide about 35 jobs and comply with the latest requirements in the areas of food safety and fire safety. The construction work will be carried out in a sustainable way making use of sustainable materials.
