Current topics in the state of suspense between theory and practice
The keynote given by Dr Ulf Merbold, former astronaut and graduate physicist, was one of the highlights right at the beginning of the event. With his fascinating report on scientific experiments in space, he virtually created an approach to the topics of the series of lectures. The subsequent lectures during the morning tied in smoothly and revealed not only the internal competence in capacity measurement for which Güntner invested significantly with its own laboratory but also offered scientifically proven practical help for selecting suited materials for air coolers in terms of corrosion protection and for selecting the best dry cooling technology for different applications.
In the afternoon, the events partly running in parallel thematically ranged from technically profound application reports such as the innovative heat and cooling production in a transcritical CO2 plant to new system trends like the NH3 systems with low refrigerant charges already common in the US, and to technical innovations like the unique Güntner glycol collection system that fully complies with the legal requirements effective from beginning of August.
Also, the lecture on Controls approaches to the energetic optimization of refrigerating plants by intelligent condenser control was followed with great interest. This lecture shed light on the trend towards Internet-ready communication protocols and the associated increasing networking. The concluding panel discussion represented a novelty at this event: In keeping with the motto "Refrigeration technology 4.0 – Which requirements will the refrigeration technology have to face in the future", renowned practitioners who are Güntner customers shared and discussed their expectations and visions. A planner, a plant contractor, a wholesaler and a consultant provided a balanced picture of this highly complex issue.
International expert audience
Held every two years, alternating with the Chillventa, the Symposium was again a hub for the international audience. Altogether 323 invited guests from 50 nations including customers from Australia, Japan, Malaysia, China, Mexico, Brazil and Chile seized the opportunity for professional and personal exchange at this meeting point for the refrigeration industry that has meanwhile become a tradition. All customer groups were present, from wholesale customers to plant contractors and planning specialists. The event is a popular opportunity not only for an exchange among customers but also for direct talks among the contact persons of the Güntner Group and their customers.
Spectacular event framework
Besides the technical program, there was also plenty of time for cultural and social aspects. During the event breaks and agenda items such as the rustic evening in the village, the spectacular feast dinner in the sparkling atmosphere of the Swarovski Crystal Worlds and, of course, the almost traditional outdoor activities on Saturday, there was plenty of time to exchange experiences and ideas in a familiar atmosphere and to enjoy the amazing scenery.
