Hussmann Partners with Refra to Supply CO2 and R290 Systems in Australia

Exclusive deal brings transcritical CO2 racks and R290 heat pumps to local market.

Hussmann, a Panasonic company, has entered into an exclusive partnership with Refra to supply natural refrigerant-based systems across the Australian market. The agreement includes transcritical CO2 racks, chillers, and R290 heat pumps, reinforcing Hussmann’s commitment to sustainable HVACR solutions.

The collaboration will strengthen Hussmann’s product portfolio with Refra’s natural refrigerant technology, supporting growing demand for low-GWP solutions. These systems are intended for cold chain applications and aim to improve energy efficiency while complying with evolving environmental regulations.

Refra brings over a decade of experience in CO2 and propane systems, with 84% of its production currently using natural refrigerants. The company has focused on sustainable manufacturing practices since its transition to CO2 and R290 technologies began 10 years ago.

"This collaboration underscores our commitment to sustainability and innovation, allowing us to offer our customers effective and environmentally friendly refrigeration solutions."

Refra’s CEO, Aleksej Pavšukov, highlighted the importance of the deal for advancing sustainable refrigeration: "Our partnership with Hussmann represents a significant milestone—not only in Refra’s growth but also in driving the refrigeration market toward a more sustainable and environmentally responsible industry."

The partnership is expected to support Australian businesses in adopting energy-efficient, natural refrigerant systems, while maintaining compliance with industry standards and future-proofing operations.
