Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning to relocate and expand factory in Wuhu, China

Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning announced plans to invest $US135 million towards the relocation and expansion of its factory in Wuhu, Anhui Province, China.

Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning’s Wuhu factory, located in the Wuhu Economic and Technological Development Area, currently specializes in manufacturing residential air conditioners for the China and Japanese markets. It was first opened by Hitachi, Ltd. in 2002. The opening of new areas in the east of the Wuhu Economic and Technological Development Area have now created an opportunity to relocate the facility to a larger site and significantly expand its capabilities.

With the support of the Administrative Committee of the Wuhu Economic & Technological Development Area, Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning will invest $US135 million in the construction of a brand new manufacturing facility capable of producing residential air conditioners and also commercial air conditioning products and components. The investment will commence in 2020 and continue for three to four years. The new factory is scheduled to be completed in May 2021 with production commencing January 2022.

“Our Wuhu factory has long served as a key manufacturing facility in our global residential air conditioner business. We are now very excited to further invest in Wuhu as we relocate and expand the facility’s capabilities to cover commercial products,” commented Franz Cerwinka, Chief Executive Officer, Johnson Controls-Hitachi Air Conditioning.
