The start of 2019 takes M&M Refrigeration into its 50th year of business. Founded in 1969 by Duffy McConnell in Federalsburg, Maryland.
McConnell started the company with humble beginnings when he got out of the military. In the early years, M&M operated out of McConnell’s home and he used an old delivery truck to visit clients and service refrigeration systems. It did not take long for the business to grow where he expanded his team as well as the company offerings. The first industrial refrigeration equipment was built in 1974 and the first ammonia system was installed in 1977.
After continued expansion, and a few various locations, eventually McConnell purchased the complex where M&M Refrigeration resides today. Now M&M has 3 locations- the Federalsburg, Maryland headquarters, a controls division in Ormond Beach, Florida, and a service division in Montgomery, Alabama. Currently, M&M employs 116 people across all locations.
The most notable accomplishment of M&M Refrigeration is the installation of the first CO2 Cascade System in North America. This put M&M on the map, where there are now over 65 CO2 Cascade installations globally including the largest systems in the USA, Canada, Mexico and Southeast Asia.
M&M continues to expand across multiple markets and technologies. In 2018, M&M Refrigeration was acquired by the private equity group, Source Capital, which has posed the company for future sustainable growth. The team at M&M Refrigeration is proud to hit this milestone and is looking forward to continuing the legacy that was built by McConnell over the past 5 decades.
