Mike Creamer FInstR confirmed as the IOR President at its AGM

Mike Creamer FInstR was confirmed as President of the Institute of Refrigeration at its AGM on 5th November 2020.

“I am very honoured to have been charged with this responsibility and will do my very best for this wonderful industry and the excellent people that are part of it. The IOR provides our industry with a wealth of technical information and advice with particular emphasis on environment, efficiency, safety and innovation. The IOR is an essential forum for people all over the world to get together to share knowledge and advance refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump technology applications. It does great work in raising education standards, addressing environmental concerns and providing technical guidance. I look forward to playing an important part in growing the Institute and supporting its members during my time as President.”

Mike has been a member of the IOR for over 35 years and a Fellow since 2014.

“I have enjoyed my membership of the IOR for many years, recognising its fine work and excellent contribution to our industry. Even so, there is still much to do, learn, and pass on, especially with so many new industry changes and challenges.” He says.

Mike has held various roles within the RACHP sector over his career including Toolmaker, Design Draughtsman and Mechanical Design Engineer, Chief Applications Engineer, Marketing Manager, Sales Director, Compressor Quality Director and is now Managing Director of a training company and also a Consultant. He continues to be actively involved in design and R&D working on water chillers, refrigeration systems, process cooling, sea-going equipment, and large cooling systems in Nuclear Power Stations.

He brings to the IOR his real passion to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Mike added “My field performance analysis work regularly shows me the huge air conditioning power consumption within buildings and how as much as 30% can be saved by eliminating inefficiency via simple adjustments. Increasing awareness of this environmental opportunity will be one of my objectives as IOR President. The need for reduced energy consumption and emissions and the enhancement of engineering skills across the industry, in particular the elevation of young people, into this wonderful industry, will be a strong focus for me. I am also keen to pursue the IOR’s work to positively influence relevant Government Departments by creating stronger awareness of our role in the UK economy and addressing both the need for and the means of reducing the UK’s energy consumption through effective heating and cooling policies. I look forward to working with IOR members and colleagues over the next two years, including of course Kevin Glass, our Past President”.
