Mojave Secures Patent for Liquid Desiccant Regenerator Design

New USPTO patent supports ArctiDry system’s energy-efficient performance

Mojave Energy Systems has received a United States patent for its proprietary liquid desiccant regenerator design, a core component of its ArctiDry commercial air conditioning and dehumidification system. The patent—titled Ultra Low Flow Desiccant Air Conditioning Systems Devices and Methods—recognizes Mojave’s novel approach to enhancing system efficiency and reliability through simplified architecture.

The patented design enables Mojave’s ArctiDry to regenerate liquid desiccant using an ultra-low air-to-liquid flow ratio, significantly improving energy performance compared to traditional systems. ArctiDry can operate in heat pump mode and includes optional supplemental heating, making it suitable for various building types including healthcare, education, grocery, hospitality, and manufacturing.

With an ISMRE2 efficiency rating of up to 11 lbs/kWh, ArctiDry delivers twice the efficiency of conventional Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) and exceeds U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) standards by more than 100%. The system also allows for independent control of dew point and temperature, offering flexibility in HVAC operation and enabling energy savings across entire buildings.

“We are committed to creating innovation that makes sense and delivers important benefits for today’s businesses. This patent gives Mojave a clear advantage in the most critical aspect of producing a successful liquid desiccant air conditioner,” said Phil Farese, CEO of Mojave Energy Systems. “By regenerating the liquid desiccant with an air-to-liquid ratio at multiples lower than what has been done in the past, we achieve far greater efficiency with a simplified system that makes it more reliable and cost-effective for our customers.”

The ArctiDry system is designed for integration into existing HVAC infrastructure, requiring minimal maintenance while significantly reducing electricity usage and carbon dioxide emissions. Its design supports clients aiming to meet Net Zero goals.

Mojave currently holds over 40 active patents or patent applications globally, including six issued U.S. patents, as it continues to expand its portfolio of high-efficiency liquid desiccant technologies.
