MSA Safety Acquires M&C TechGroup to Expand Gas Detection Portfolio

$200 million deal adds advanced gas analysis systems to MSA’s global offering.

MSA Safety Incorporated has acquired German-based M&C TechGroup in a transaction valued at approximately $200 million. The acquisition strengthens MSA’s capabilities in fixed gas and flame detection by adding M&C’s advanced gas analysis systems to its portfolio.

Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Ratingen, Germany, M&C TechGroup designs and manufactures systems for gas sampling, gas conditioning, and process control. The company’s solutions are deployed in critical environments across industries such as energy, chemicals, utilities, manufacturing, and food and beverage. M&C employs about 220 people worldwide.

MSA said the acquisition aligns with its Accelerate strategy, which prioritizes growth in gas detection through targeted acquisitions. The integration of M&C is expected to broaden MSA’s addressable market with complementary technologies, particularly in industrial process environments.

“With M&C's leadership position and expertise in gas measurement, gas analysis and process control, we expect to accelerate its growth by leveraging our global footprint, customer relationships and distribution network,” said Steve Blanco, MSA Safety President and CEO.

M&C’s Managing Director and principal owner Olaf Sommer highlighted cultural alignment and shared values as key factors in the decision to join MSA. “By leveraging MSA's global market reach, its distribution resources and its detection expertise, we have a great opportunity to expand our business well beyond the installed base and markets we serve today,” he said.

The transaction further positions MSA Safety as a comprehensive provider of gas detection and analysis solutions aimed at enhancing workplace safety and operational efficiency across a wide range of industrial sectors.
