Kaori Heat Treatment Co., Ltd. has partnered with Walsin Lihwa, Century Energy and Tai Fung Trading to establish Walsin Century Nuclear System Co., Ltd. The joint venture will combine the partners’ technologies and industry resources to explore opportunities in the nuclear energy sector, including thermal management and modular products for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).
Kaori plans to apply its experience in heat exchanger design, heat transfer technologies, metal processing, precision manufacturing and welding to potential SMR applications. The company has developed capabilities in high-temperature energy systems, modular manufacturing, product design and mass production through its existing energy equipment business.
According to Kaori, SMR systems require high standards of heat transfer efficiency, material reliability, manufacturing precision, welding quality and system safety. Potential products under consideration include high-end heat exchangers, heat transfer modules and related thermal management solutions.
The company also identified growing electricity demand from AI data centers as a factor driving interest in stable and efficient energy supplies. Kaori expects that the development of SMR technology and evolving regulatory frameworks could create opportunities for a new energy equipment supply chain.
Kaori will continue developing its heat exchanger and energy product technologies while assessing SMR applications through market research, technical evaluations and industry partnerships.
