Construction of the new Samworth Brothers Supply Chain (SBSC) distribution centre, on Scudamore Lane at the Leicester Distribution Park has started with the building's steel frame now going up. Alex Knight, Group Chief Executive, and Mark Samworth recently joined Paul Bennell, Managing Director of SBSC, Samworth Brothers Directors and members of the project team to see the building work in progress. SBSC's new Leicestershire distribution centre, due to open in autumn 2017 will at 165,000 square feet offer more than twice the capacity of SBSC's current facility at Woodside in Leicester.
The new centre, replacing the Woodside facility, will serve Samworth Brothers businesses across Leicestershire as well as other external customers. It will deliver new industry leading warehouse capabilities including the ability to "blast freeze" products down to minus 20C, and "temper" them back to chill temperatures. In addition, the new site will include a staff restaurant and other administrative offices. Samworth Brothers Supply Chain Managing Director Paul Bennell said; "After months of planning it is a great to see our new distribution centre taking shape. We are all looking forward to getting our new centre fully operational later this year so we can offer our Leicestershire businesses and external customers greater flexibility and growth potential."
