Rheem Highlights Product Emissions Cuts and Training Milestone in 2024 Report

Rheem has published its 2024 Sustainability Progress Report, marking significant advancements in emissions reduction, zero waste initiatives, and workforce education. Released on Earth Day, the report reflects progress under Rheem’s “A Greater Degree of Good” program, aimed at transforming the HVAC/R and water heating sectors through sustainable innovation.

Product Emissions Cut by Up to 87%

As part of a goal to reduce product greenhouse gas emissions by at least 50% by 2025 (compared to 2019 levels), Rheem introduced a new line of high-efficiency air and water heat pump products. These systems, designed for residential and commercial use, have demonstrated emissions reductions of up to 87%.

"We are committed to innovating with intent, engineering solutions that prioritize performance and sustainability,” said Chee Wee Gan, senior vice president, strategy & sustainability at Rheem. “With 100 years of experience and counting, we take pride in achieving our sustainable product goal with this collection of market-leading and high-efficiency products."

Zero Waste and Emissions Goals on Track

All facilities originally included in Rheem’s 2019 Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) program have now achieved ZWTL status, diverting at least 90% of nonhazardous solid waste from landfills, incineration, and waste-to-energy processes. The company also reaffirmed its target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% across global manufacturing operations by 2025, noting it remains on pace to meet this target by year-end.

Training Network Surpasses Expectations

Rheem exceeded its goal to train 250,000 industry professionals in sustainable practices by 2025—reporting more than 600,000 trained to date. In 2024, the company launched a new Innovation Learning Center (ILC) in Saudi Arabia, expanding its network to 27 centers worldwide. These facilities provide region-specific, hands-on training in sustainable HVAC/R technologies.

As the company prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2025, Rheem continues to emphasize its long-term commitment to environmental stewardship across global operations.
