Schmitz Cargobull wins Green Truck Innovation Award 2018

Date: 26 April 2018
The VerkehrsRundschau trade magazine has once again presented its prestigious Green Truck Future Innovation, Green Truck, Green Van, Green Light Truck and Green Truck Innovation environmental awards. The presentation ceremony took place within the framework of the Truck and Fleet trade conference and transport managers’ dinner in Darmstadt. First place in the Green Truck Innovation 2018 category was awarded to Schmitz Cargobull for its SmartTrailer. Boris Billich, Sales Director at Schmitz Cargobull, accepted the award from Gerhard Grünig, the magazine’s editor-in-chief. “With the SmartTrailer, Schmitz Cargobull Telematics presents the next generation of its trailer telematics. The innovative, intelligent SmartTrailer concept is a product of the ongoing development of the company’s proprietary TrailerConnect telematics system. This includes a large number of new, networked functions. SmartTrailer is designed as an open system and therefore greatly benefits the transport and logistics sector,” commented Boris Billich at the ceremony. Previous trailer telematics systems made use of a variety of different sensors and displays that communicated with one another only to a limited extent. The SmartTrailer concept interconnects and digitalises all these components. This means that components from third-party providers can also be integrated without any problems. In the Green Truck Innovation category, the SmartTrailer captivated the expert jury, consisting of Prof. Dr. Markus Lienkamp, TU Munich, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering / Chair for Automotive Engineering; Martin Schmied, Head of Department I 3 Transport, Noise and Spatial Development, Federal Environmental Agency (UBA), Dessau; Dipl.-Ing. Dieter Roth, Senior Manager Business Development, TÜV SÜD Auto Service GmbH, Regensburg; Jochen Quick, entrepreneur and President of the Federal Association for Business, Transport and Logistics (BWVL) e.V., Bonn; Dipl.-Red.Jan Burgdorf, Head of the Department for Testing & Technology, VerkehrsRundschau/TRUCKER, Munich; and Dipl.-Ing. Gerhard Grünig, Editor-in-Chief, VerkehrsRundschau/TRUCKER, Munich.
