Shree Refrigerations to Offer Smardt Oil-Free Chillers for Data Centres in India

Shree Refrigerations Limited (SRL), a supplier of cooling systems to India’s Defence sector, has entered a strategic association with Smardt Chillers Pte Ltd to deliver oil-free chillers for the country’s data centre segment. The collaboration, formalised through SRL’s subsidiary Trezor Technologies Pvt. Ltd., will bring Smardt’s magnetic bearing chiller technology to India for mission-critical applications.

According to SRL, the move supports its plan to diversify beyond its established defence and industrial cooling businesses. The company aims to meet growing demand for high-efficiency, low-maintenance cooling in Indian data centres. SRL expects the new vertical to generate 10–15% of its total revenues within three years.

Smardt, which has installed over 10,000 oil-free chillers worldwide, claims its magnetic bearing technology offers 20–50% higher energy efficiency than conventional oil-lubricated chillers. These systems are designed to achieve low power utilization efficiency (PUE) levels, a key requirement for data centres.

SRL has already installed more than 40 magnetic bearing chillers in India, further underscoring its capacity to support advanced cooling deployments in emerging sectors.

“Data centers demand the highest levels of efficiency and uptime,” said RG Shende, Chairman & Managing Director, Shree Refrigerations Limited. “Our association with Smardt allows us to deliver cutting-edge magnetic bearing chiller technology to Indian customers, strengthening our commitment to efficient and reliable cooling solutions.”

Derek Chan, Director Data Centers (Asia Pacific), Smardt Chillers Pte Ltd, added: “India is one of the fastest-growing data center markets globally, and we are delighted to work with Shree Refrigerations Limited to bring our world-class magnetic bearing chiller technology to this market.”
