Siemens completes acquisition of ebm‑papst's Industrial Drive Technology division

Siemens AG has finalized the acquisition of the Industrial Drive Technology (IDT) division from the ebm‑papst Group. The division, now operating under the name "Mechatronic Systems", becomes part of Siemens and brings around 650 employees specializing in intelligent mechatronic systems and motion control solutions for driverless transport systems.

The acquisition supports Siemens' strategy to expand its Xcelerator portfolio and strengthens its offering in flexible factory automation and digitalization. IDT's portfolio focuses on integrated systems within the safety extra-low voltage range, designed for applications such as autonomous mobile robots and transport shuttles.

The agreement was first announced in March 2024, and with the transaction now complete, IDT gains access to Siemens’ global sales network. This integration is expected to open new business opportunities and support international growth. The purchase price remains undisclosed.

For ebm‑papst, the sale aligns with its ongoing corporate strategy “Making the Future Together”, launched in 2022, which centers on advancing core competencies in air and heating technologies while driving sustainability and digital transformation.

“The past 15 months have clearly demonstrated the strength and dedication of our colleagues at IDT,” said Dr. Klaus Geißdörfer, CEO of the ebm‑papst Group. “Looking back, we are more confident than ever that this was the right decision and a vital step for the division’s successful international growth.”

Achim Peltz, CEO of the Motion Control Business Unit at Siemens Digital Industries, added: “The integrated mechatronic drive systems enhance flexibility, productivity, and efficiency in the rapidly growing global market for conveyor and autonomous transport systems, such as mobile robots, driverless transport vehicles, and shuttles.”
