Start of building work for ebm-papst distribution center

Ceremonial ground breaking: In the presence of State Premièr Winfried Kretschmann, ebm-papst ceremonially initiated construction of the 38,000 m2 distribution center that is to be erected in the immediate vicinity of its Hollenbacher factory. The new building, which is expected to cost around €36 million, is to be a logistics center that will dispatch the fan manufacturer’s high-tech products to its customers all over the world. The new building is scheduled to be taken into service at the end of 2016. “I am very pleased to be here today for the ground breaking of this new ebm-papst distribution center”, said State Premièr Kretschmann. “Such logistics centers are vital – especially for Hohenlohekreis, which is home to many world market leaders. This loyalty to the local region not only secures and creates jobs, but also encourages other companies.” Construction of the distribution center was contingent on the improvement of Hollenbacher Steige, the transport route between Hollenbach and the headquarters in Mulfingen. This steep, narrow road is particularly difficult for trucks to negotiate, and has been the subject of discussion for decades. The state and local district have now reached agreement on improvements, which are expected to be carried out in the spring of 2016. Rainer Hundsdörfer, chairman of the ebm-papst group management board: “We urgently need this upgrade if we are to optimize logistics between our locations in Hohenlohekreis. If this road were not going to be improved we would not have approved this sizable investment in Hollenbach and Mulfingen. I am pleased that we will remain faithful to the area and can safeguard jobs in Hohenlohekreis for the long term.” In addition to the distribution center, in early 2016 ebm-papst will also begin constructing new buildings at the Mulfingen site that will house expanded research and administrative areas. Two new buildings will be integrated into the existing business landscape to provide additional office space and new measuring and testing facilities. The fan specialist will be investing a further €30 million in this project.
