The new SLXi Hybrid trailer refrigeration from Thermo King, a leader in transport temperature control solutions for a variety of mobile applications and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, announced that it has been awarded a European Transport Award for Sustainability 2018 in the category “vehicle cooling and heating systems.”
The Thermo King SLXi Hybrid, a hybrid refrigeration system for semi-trailer applications has been recognized for its innovative design and technologies. These designs and technologies are environmentally responsible and support Ingersoll Rand’s commitment to addressing the unsustainable demand for energy resources.
“We are pleased to be recognized for our climate-friendly solutions for transport refrigeration customers,” said Pauli Johannesen, vice president and general manager for Truck, Trailer and Bus at Thermo King in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). ”The SLXi Hybrid offers customers easier access to restricted, low-emission urban areas that require quiet operation, while lowering their environmental footprint and operating costs at the same time.”
The SLXi Hybrid refrigeration system includes a Thermo King SLXi refrigeration unit and the Frigoblock EnviroDrive package. This package includes an alternator installed on the tractor engine and an inverter-drive system to provide constant electric power and operate the unit with its diesel engine turned off.
The SLXi Hybrid uses next generation, low global warming potential (GWP) R-452A refrigerant, which significantly reduces its impact on the environment. It is also quieter allowing customers to easily access noise-regulated urban areas.
The SLXi Hybrid will be commercially available this year as part of the SLXi refrigerated trailer platform. It is also part of Ingersoll Rand’s EcoWise™ portfolio of products designed to lower environmental impact with next generation, low global warming potential refrigerants and high efficiency operation.
The European Transport Award for Sustainability, which is handed out biennially, is organized by the German publisher HUSS-VERLAG GmbH and its magazine Transport to honor companies in the transportation and commercial vehicle industry that take sustainable actions and help to better anchor the principles of sustainable development.
The 2018 awards were handed out during an official ceremony in Munich, Germany. An independent jury consisting of representatives from business, science, industry associations and media carefully evaluated the applications in 16 different categories based on a point system. The award is intended to encourage companies in the transport and commercial vehicle sector to act sustainably, and demonstrates that responsible and sustainable action not only helps to solve social and ecological problems on a global scale, but also increases profitability and competitiveness for the businesses.
