Trane launches HVAC scholarship program in Indonesia

Trane, a brand of Trane Technologies plc, has launched the “Trane Future Climate Engineers Scholarship” program in Indonesia to support the development of a new generation of HVAC professionals. The initiative is implemented in collaboration with Politeknik Negeri Bandung (POLBAN) and the local non-profit Yayasan Generasi Cerdas Iklim (GCI), offering scholarships, technical training, and leadership development for students of POLBAN’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering program.

The program addresses the shortage of skilled HVAC professionals in Indonesia, as rapid urbanization and rising demand for climate adaptation solutions increase the need for energy-efficient system expertise. Selected high-performing students will receive financial support, participate in specialized technical training, and gain hands-on field experience with mentorship from Trane experts.

Developed by Trane and GCI, the curriculum includes regular online sessions on advanced HVAC topics and sustainable engineering, intensive leadership workshops, and post-graduation career support. Students will also take part in internships and have access to job placement opportunities in the HVAC sector.

“We are committed not only to technology innovation but also to developing talent that will lead the industry toward a sustainable future,” said Steven Lim, Country Leader, Trane Indonesia. “This scholarship program is an investment in building careers for talented students by equipping them with both technical and leadership skills critical to their success.”

Iwan Ridwan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Vice Director of Academic Affairs at POLBAN, highlighted that the program provides field practice and mentorship from industry leaders, enriching students’ learning experience with practical insights. Ikrom Mustofa, S.Si., M.Sc., Founder & Advisor of GCI, emphasized the value of structured training and career pathways in ensuring a strong pipeline of skilled professionals for Indonesia’s sustainable future.

The partnership was officially launched at a ceremony attended by leaders from all three organizations. The initiative is part of Trane Technologies’ corporate social responsibility strategy, Sustainable Futures, which is aligned with the company’s 2030 Sustainability Commitments. Through Sustainable Futures, Trane Technologies has pledged to invest USD 100 million and contribute 500,000 volunteer hours globally by 2030 to expand access to STEM education and career pathways in green sectors.
