Trane Technologies sets circularity revenue and materials targets for 2030

Trane Technologies has announced new circularity impact metrics aimed at generating 10% of its revenue from circular products and services, and more than doubling the use of circular materials by 2030.

The company’s strategy includes using recycled materials and optimizing product life cycles through smart services, upgrades, remanufacturing, and recovery programs. These efforts are intended to reduce material use, improve supply chain resilience, and create recurring revenue opportunities.

The metrics align with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development’s Global Circularity Protocol, launched during the UN COP30 conference in November. The protocol provides a voluntary framework for measuring and reporting circularity practices.

Trane Technologies reported that about 46% of the key commodities used in its products in 2024 contained recycled content, including steel, copper, and aluminum. The company collaborates with suppliers such as Granges Americas to source recycled materials.

The new benchmarks build on Trane Technologies’ “Leading by Example” 2030 Sustainability Commitment, which includes goals such as reducing embodied carbon in products by 40% and delivering over one million HVAC units made with low-carbon steel.

“With these new metrics, we’re tracking the conversion of circularity practices into revenue, continuing to demonstrate that there is no tradeoff between strong financial performance and bold sustainability leadership,” said Mauro J. Atalla, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer, Trane Technologies.
