UK ETL streamlines listing for Eurovent-certified chillers

Manufacturers of packaged chillers can now use existing Eurovent Certified Performance test reports to apply for the UK Energy Technology List (ETL), following an alignment between Eurovent Certification and ETL criteria. Eurovent said the change streamlines the application process and gives specifiers and procurement teams independently verified, comparable data to help identify high-performing equipment for commercial and industrial projects.

The alignment applies to six of the seven product categories in the ETL Packaged Chillers sub-category for manufacturers holding Eurovent Certified Performance for Chillers and Heat Pumps (LCP-HP). These include air-cooled comfort chillers and reverse-cycle comfort chillers up to 1,500 kW (approx. 5.12 million BTU/h), water-cooled comfort chillers and reverse-cycle comfort chillers up to 2,000 kW (approx. 6.82 million BTU/h), and air-cooled and water-cooled high temperature process chillers up to 1,500 kW (approx. 5.12 million BTU/h) and 2,000 kW (approx. 6.82 million BTU/h) respectively.

Eurovent said Product type 5, covering air-cooled simultaneous heating and cooling comfort chillers with cooling capacity up to 1,500 kW (approx. 5.12 million BTU/h), is not currently aligned with Eurovent Certified Performance criteria. It also said medium temperature, low temperature and very high temperature chillers are outside the scope of this update because they are not currently included in the ETL criteria.

The ETL lists packaged chillers designed for and tested with refrigerants that have a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 750 or less. According to Eurovent, products meeting that threshold are eligible for ETL listing.

Matthew Nudd, UK Partnership Manager at Eurovent Certification, said: “Our collaboration with the Energy Technology List stems from a common goal, of derisking design and purchasing decisions, by providing confidence through independently verified performance data. The Energy Technology List is an excellent platform, allowing users to make quicker, more informed, sustainable decisions. This important alignment enables Eurovent-Certified manufacturers a streamlined process to identify themselves within the top 25% of the market for energy efficiency in their class, and benefit from the Energy Technology List’s thousands of decision makers, who are already regularly utilising the resource, across multiple product categories.”
