As part of its ongoing sustainability efforts, FC Bayern Munich has partnered with Viessmann Climate Solutions, a subsidiary of Carrier Corporation, to install 19 new heat pumps at the Allianz Arena. The move supports the club’s goal of reducing CO₂ emissions and improving energy efficiency in its stadium operations.
The project involves the installation of 19 Viessmann Vitocal 350 HT-PRO heat pumps, which will provide decentralized heat supply to various areas within the stadium, including the bistro, fan shop, and Experience World. These units join three large Carrier heat pumps that have been operating the pitch heating system since 2022.
According to the partners, the comprehensive energy concept could reduce CO₂ emissions from stadium heating by up to 40%. Additionally, approximately 1,050 photovoltaic modules have been installed on the roofs of visitor control areas to enhance energy self-sufficiency.
The initiative is part of a broader collaboration between FC Bayern and Viessmann Climate Solutions, aiming to upgrade the stadium with renewable climate solutions. The campaign promoting the project, developed by Hamburg-based creative studio 27km, uses a humorous approach to link the installation of heat pumps with the excitement of football player transfers.
“Climate protection is undoubtedly one of the greatest challenges of our time,” the club stated, emphasizing its intention to take a pioneering role both in football and in sustainability.
