Carrier launches AquaEdge 19MV4 chiller for AI data centres

Carrier has introduced the AquaEdge 19MV4 variable-speed centrifugal chiller for AI data centres. The company said the unit is designed for mission-critical environments and to support continuous cooling as IT loads increase and operating temperatures rise.

The AquaEdge 19MV4 provides 2.1 MW to 3.3 MW of cooling capacity (about 7.2 million to 11.3 million BTU/h). Carrier said the chiller is designed to manage heat from Graphics Processing Units and Tensor Processing Units, and to support mechanical room layouts in high-density facilities.

According to Carrier, the unit can operate with chilled-water temperatures up to 35°C (95°F) and condensing temperatures up to 55°C (131°F), supporting direct-to-chip liquid cooling and rear-door heat exchangers. Its EquiDrive two-stage centrifugal compressor modulates from 10% to 100% load to address fluctuations in AI compute demand. Under AHRI test conditions, the chiller achieves up to a COP of 6.75 and an IPLV of 11.4.

Carrier said the AquaEdge 19MV4 can restart within 150 seconds after a power outage to support thermal recovery. The company also said Active Harmonic Filters keep Total Harmonic Distortion of Current below 5% to reduce electrical noise affecting IT infrastructure and uninterruptible power supplies.

The chiller operates below 80 dBA under stated performance conditions and is available with the low-GWP refrigerants R-1234ze and R-515B, which Carrier said align with EU F-Gas Regulation requirements. The AquaEdge 19MV4 is part of Carrier QuantumLeap solutions for data centres.

"AI workloads are reshaping data centre specifications, pushing our customers to seek greater thermal headroom without sacrificing power stability," said Marti Urpinas, Carrier’s Senior Technical Manager, Vertical Markets EMEA, DC Applied.
