Castel introduces 3032 changeover valves with ORS connection

Castel Srl has expanded its refrigeration and air conditioning portfolio with the 3032 changeover valves for safety valves, now also available with ORS connections. The solution meets the needs of systems using natural refrigerants, particularly CO2 (R744) and propane (R290), with the aim of ensuring safe maintenance and uninterrupted operation.

Reference standards, including ISO 24664, require correct sizing of piping connected to safety valves to avoid backpressure. In the case of flammable refrigerants such as R290, the standards recommend discharging to a safe area away from potential ignition sources, which may include metallic ducts to the outside or controlled ventilated areas.

The 3032 changeover valves are three-way devices that connect two safety valves to a single point in the system, allowing a switch between an active and a standby valve without depressurizing or shutting down the plant. This enables safe replacement or testing of valves in compliance with regulations, even on systems charged with refrigerant. The range is offered within Castel’s GoGreen line for CO2 (R744) systems and the Polyhedra line for flammable refrigerants such as propane (R290).

Correct orientation of the changeover valve simplifies design and installation, reduces the need for bends and extensions, and improves accessibility for future service operations. From a maintenance perspective, an ergonomic layout free of obstructions reduces downtime and the risk of errors during switching, bringing operational benefits for service teams and end users.

The ORS (O-Ring Seal) connections improve external sealing compared to conical NPT fittings, which require external sealants and are more prone to assembly errors, long-term leakage, and difficult disassembly. ORS connections ensure greater repeatability in tightening, tolerance to minor misalignments, and quicker, safer maintenance, which is particularly important in systems with flammable refrigerants.

According to Castel, the 3032 changeover valves with ORS connection are not just accessories but strategic components for safer and more easily serviceable systems, helping reduce installation complexity and improving long-term reliability.
