Daikin Applied UK is advancing its sustainable HVAC strategy by manufacturing air handling units (AHUs) at its Cramlington facility in Northumberland. The company aims to meet growing demand in healthcare, data centres, and commercial estates with solutions tailored to UK-specific standards and decarbonisation targets.
The locally engineered AHUs are fully compliant with national healthcare requirements, including HTM 03-01, and are supported by a team of UK-based engineers. This local presence enables faster support, regulatory alignment, and reduced emissions from transport. The company reports increased uptake of AHU refurbishments and modular systems to improve energy efficiency and project delivery, particularly within NHS and pharmaceutical sectors.
Key product developments include the HTM-Pro T Series, a compact AHU designed for hospitals. It offers up to 80% heat recovery and energy savings of up to 25% compared to legacy systems, according to early field reports. The Daikin on Site platform adds remote monitoring, leak detection, and predictive maintenance capabilities; at Oxford Instruments, it reportedly helped cut over 20,000 kWh of energy annually.
For data centres, the Pro-W CRAH range supports scalable, high-efficiency cooling for mission-critical environments. Additionally, the EWYS-4Z four-pipe chiller, manufactured in Rome, enables simultaneous heating and cooling for mixed-use buildings, while a propane (R-290) air-to-water chiller is set for release in 2025.
Daikin is also expanding its Rental Solutions offer, providing short- and long-term access to chillers, heat pumps, and AHUs—backed by installation, commissioning, and connected services. These have been used to support critical applications, such as temporary AHUs during NHS hospital theatre upgrades.
Across its portfolio, the company emphasises sustainability through energy recovery, EC plug fans, high-efficiency motors, and demand-based ventilation control. Most AHU models are Eurovent certified, and Daikin Applied UK states it is currently the only AHU manufacturer in the UK with this certification.
“Our future strategy is rooted in holistic HVAC solutions that integrate energy efficiency, digitalisation, and lifecycle sustainability,” said Valerio Micali, Applied Product Manager at Daikin Applied UK.
Daikin Applied UK also confirms compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and healthcare ventilation standards, while exploring AI and machine learning to further optimise connected HVAC systems across large estates.
