Daikin Applied (UK) has expanded its compact air handling unit (AHU) portfolio with the launch of Compact R, a rotary heat recovery unit aimed at UK commercial projects where plant space is limited. The company says the unit is designed to improve energy performance while keeping a space-saving footprint.
Part of the Compact series, Compact R is offered in seven sizes covering airflow rates from 500 to 6,000 m³/h (approx. 295 to 3,530 cfm). Daikin Applied (UK) says the range targets light commercial and public-sector applications including offices, retail, education and refurbishment projects, with right- or left-hand configurations and side-duct connections. The company also states the unit can be installed indoors or outdoors, and that its airflow design supports consistent ventilation performance and improved indoor air quality (IAQ).
According to Daikin Applied (UK), Compact R can be specified with accessories including electric heaters, heating coils for pre- or post-treatment, additional filtration stages and sound attenuators. The unit is described as compatible with the Daikin AHU-DX kit, allowing the AHU and condensing unit to operate on a single control platform; the primary treatment coil is available as either a water or DX coil and is integrated into the unit. The AHU-DX kit is stated to be compatible with R-410A and R-32 refrigerants, and Compact R can also be combined with Daikin VRV R-32 systems; selection and configuration are carried out using Astra Web.
Daikin Applied (UK) says Compact R uses a rotary heat recovery wheel (condensation or sorption versions) that can recover sensible and latent heat by transferring energy from exhaust air to incoming fresh air. Standard filtration is listed as ePM1 50% (F7) on the supply air and ePM10 75% (M5) on the return air, and the unit is Eurovent certified for independently verified performance data.
The company states Compact R is produced under a Make-to-Stock (MTS) approach to provide short lead times, with larger sizes supplied in two modules and an optional outdoor kit. Units are described as plug-and-play with pre-configured settings, and the product supports zone-by-zone control; integration with the Daikin IEQ sensor is intended to enable monitoring and Demand Controlled Ventilation (DCV). Compact R is also compatible with Daikin on Site (DoS) for 24/7 remote monitoring, and uses Daikin’s Pro open control platform for interoperability with Building Management Systems (BMS).
