Danfoss expands iC7-Automation VFD with functional safety and fieldbus options

Danfoss has announced new features for its iC7-Automation variable frequency drive (VFD), aimed at improving flexibility, safety, and integration capabilities in industrial automation systems.

The update introduces integrated PROFIsafe and Safe Stop 1 (SS1-t) functional safety through the "+BEF2" option, now available for all power sizes. This enables implementation of certified safety functions across a wide range of applications.

The VFD now supports a broader set of pre-installed fieldbus protocols, including EtherCAT, Modbus TCP, PROFINET RT, and EtherNet/IP. These protocols can be activated in the field without hardware retrofits. OPC UA connectivity can also be added for extended integration.

A new microSD card slot enables simplified backup and restore of drive parameters, allowing faster unit replacement and minimizing downtime. In addition, the Logic feature within the MyDrive® Insight software tool allows users to create custom automation sequences directly in the drive, reducing the need for external PLCs.

The iC7-Automation is now part of the Danfoss FlexConcept solution for the food and beverage industry, offering a unified drive platform to simplify conveyor systems.

High-power application support has been expanded with low-harmonic and regenerative AFE and Inverter system modules (Frames 10 and 11) in voltage class 07 (525–690 V AC), covering power ranges from 250 to 4500 kW.

For enclosed drives, Danfoss has also introduced the +ILSS option, adding an integrated emergency stop button on the cabinet for enhanced safety and simplified installation.
