Danfoss Introduces Two New Compressor Solutions for Heat Pumps

VZH-VI Variable Speed Scroll Compressors Expand Injection Capabilities

Danfoss has expanded its variable speed scroll compressor range with the introduction of the VZH-VI series, which now supports vapor, liquid, and wet injection. This enhancement provides manufacturers with increased flexibility in designing high-performance heat pumps for comfort cooling and low-ambient heating applications.

By integrating injection technology, the VZH-VI compressors enable precise modulation of space conditions, improving efficiency and system capacity while maintaining the same footprint. The range is compatible with a full Danfoss-qualified injection package, ensuring a complete system solution when combined with fixed-speed compressors.

Vapor injection allows units to operate efficiently in colder climates by expanding the compressor’s operating envelope. By utilizing an economizer heat exchanger, the refrigerant is injected into the compressor in a vapor or mixed phase, reducing work and increasing system efficiency. This ensures reliable operation in extreme conditions, supporting the industry's transition to heat pumps and reduced fossil fuel dependence.

"The VZH compressor range with injection is a game-changer in the path toward electrification," said Nick Mislak, Regional Segment Marketing Director for HVAC at Danfoss Climate Solutions. "By enabling heat pumps to operate efficiently in colder climates, coupled with low-GWP compatibility, the VZH-VI provides the technology needed to move toward clean heat sources while maintaining customer comfort."

PSG Compressor Supports Industrial Heat Pump Adoption

Danfoss has also introduced the PSG compressor, designed to facilitate heat pump adoption in industrial applications such as heat recovery, process heating, and district heating. The transition to electrification in industrial markets has been challenging due to the need for high-temperature heat sources, and the PSG compressor addresses this challenge by supporting heat pumps that operate at up to 100°C.

Industries like food and beverage production can now replace fossil fuel-powered boilers with optimized electric heating systems built with the PSG. The compressor is available in two capacities (105 m³/h and 140 m³/h) and can be manifolded together to accommodate a wider range of system requirements.

Additionally, the PSG is designed for use with low-GWP refrigerants R1234ze and R600a, helping industrial customers meet their decarbonization goals while improving system efficiency.

With these innovations, Danfoss continues to support the transition to sustainable heating solutions across residential, commercial, and industrial markets.
