Danfoss launches OFB oil-free shut-off valve for Turbocor

Danfoss has expanded its EXO – Extended Oil-Free program with the launch of the OFB range, an oil-free shut-off ball valve for oil-free chillers and heat pumps featuring Turbocor compressors. The company positions OFB for suction-side use as a service valve and, when motorized, as an anti-refrigerant liquid migration valve, including for demanding applications such as data centers and advanced HVAC installations.

According to Danfoss, the OFB uses a three-in-one design that combines a smooth suction-cone transition, a tight shut-off isolation valve, and full motorization capability. The smooth suction-cone is intended to support inlet flow quality with negligible pressure drop, while the tight motorized ball valve is designed to prevent refrigerant migration during standstill and start-up conditions and support safe system servicing.

Danfoss said the OFB series is a modular range compatible with all Danfoss Turbocor TGx and TTx compressors. It offers 12 inlet flange options in 3”, 4”, and 5” sizes (approx. 76 mm, 102 mm, and 127 mm) and supports connection standards including ANSI, ASTM, DIN, and EN. The specified operating temperature range is -40 °C to +100 °C (-40 °F to +212 °F).

To complete the system, Danfoss offers OFB with four compact MQT electrical actuators with a 10-second response time and brushless motor technology. The company also described a reinforced stem sealing system with guide bearings and top-mounted support, and said the valve’s low breakaway torque allows the use of smaller actuators with low mechanical stress. Danfoss added that the valve–actuator combination is endurance-tested to 100,000 cycles, and referenced the introduction of new OFC models and fast responding PTS staging valves within its oil-free extended program.
