Portsmouth-based freight company, Ferryspeed, has expanded its trailer fleet with 10 new additions, each specified with Carrier Transicold Vector 1950 multi-temperature (MT) refrigeration units. Carrier Transicold, which operates in the UK as Carrier Transicold (UK) Limited, is a part of UTC Climate, Controls & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp.
Mounted to 13.6-metre Gray & Adams trailers, the new Vector 1950 MTs will assist Ferryspeed’s import and export operations to and from the Channel Islands, then onwards to distribution centres across the UK, transporting a range of ambient and temperature-controlled goods, including food, beverage and pharmaceutical products.
“We have decades of experience serving this unique part of the UK, and we know precisely what demands it places on the fleet and the equipment we specify,” said Robin Sykes, general manager, Ferryspeed. “We opted for Carrier’s most powerful multi-temperature trailer units to give us maximum flexibility and to ensure we can offer our customers precise cold chain control.”
Ferryspeed has specified each of the new units with an everCOLD full-service, repair and maintenance package that includes annual temperature control testing and certification, full regulatory checks, and access to Carrier Transicold’s oneCALL 24/7 incident management service. All routine maintenance work will be undertaken by Carrier Transicold Southern – an independent company that provides support to customers operating Carrier Transicold equipment.
“We’re very fortunate that network service partner, Carrier Transicold Southern, operates from the same commercial site as we do, so we have all the aftersales support we could need right on our doorstep,” said Sykes. “Having the reassurance of knowing our units are being maintained in the best possible hands makes complete business sense.”
Ferryspeed’s new Vector 1950 MT units offer unparalleled pull-down speeds and are designed for transporting sensitive goods on the intensive distribution routes Ferryspeed operates. This gives the operator confidence that the set point will be maintained, even on routes with multiple door openings.
Established in 1985, Ferryspeed runs a commercial vehicle fleet of 75 vehicles, plus 400 trailers. Specialising in the storage and next day delivery of ambient and temperature-controlled freight between the UK, Jersey and Guernsey, it also operates freight services to the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Man and is a member of the Palletways network.
