Hussmann, a Panasonic company, has introduced the Protocol CO2 refrigeration unit as part of its Evolve Technologies portfolio. This new model expands the Protocol product line, which began in 1993 and was developed in response to the Montreal Protocol.
The Protocol CO2 unit uses R-744 (CO2) as a natural refrigerant, offering a global warming potential (GWP) of 1 and an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of 0. The system is designed for indoor applications, including back rooms, and is available in multiple pre-engineered capacities for medium and split temperature needs.
The unit features a medium temperature compressor with direct vapor injection and variable speed scroll technology for capacity modulation. It also includes an economizer to reduce gas cooler return temperatures and enhance overall energy efficiency.
To maintain a compact footprint, the flash tank assembly is positioned below the compressor section. This design facilitates improved service access to electrical and mechanical components. The unit aims to support store remodel programs with a low environmental impact.
