Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US Unveils Heat Pumps with R-454B Refrigerant

Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US LLC (METUS) has introduced a new line of all-electric, all-climate heat pumps that use R-454B, a low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant. The new range includes indoor and outdoor residential units from the FX and GX series, as well as SMART MULTI units for multi-zone and light commercial applications.

The new systems utilize R-454B, an A2L-class refrigerant with a GWP nearly 78% lower than R-410A. This aligns with upcoming regulatory shifts under the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act, which mandates a transition to low-GWP refrigerants by January 1, 2025. METUS aims to help the HVAC industry meet these new requirements while maintaining performance and reliability.

In addition to adopting a next-generation refrigerant, the upgraded product line features improved energy efficiency, enhanced wireless connectivity, and advanced comfort functions such as Smart Dry mode. Several models in the all-climate range can now operate in ambient temperatures as low as -22°F (-30°C), extending usability in colder climates.

"Our new A2L products meet and even exceed the updated regulatory requirements while providing the same high performance for which Mitsubishi Electric all-electric, all-climate heat pumps are recognized," said Mark Kuntz, Chief Executive Officer, Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC US LLC. "We're committed to providing distributors and dealers with the products they need to navigate the refrigerant changes confidently and to continue to create comfortable indoor spaces for homes and businesses."

The launch reinforces METUS’s long-term strategy to reduce environmental impact and support the HVAC market's transition to sustainable technologies.
