Panasonic Corporation has announced the development of a cooling water circulation pump for data centers as part of a strategic expansion of its pump business. The launch coincides with the 70th anniversary of its pump operations, managed by the company’s Living Appliances and Solutions Company.
The new pump is designed for integration into Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), addressing the growing need for liquid cooling solutions in data centers. Rising global demand for generative AI has led to an increase in CPU and GPU heat output, prompting a shift from traditional air cooling to liquid cooling technologies.
Panasonic’s cooling water circulation pump offers high efficiency, compact dimensions, and long service life. The company reports a 75% improvement in performance—from 40 to 70 L/min—while maintaining the same size as conventional models. Design enhancements include a compact housing for better integration into CDUs and the use of submersible sliding bearings for extended operational stability.
Panasonic began its pump business in 1955 with domestic well pumps and later expanded into built-in AC and DC pumps for water heaters and heating appliances. The company reports that cumulative shipments have exceeded 53 million units and aims to reach 100 million units by 2035.
The new data center pump has been adopted in cooling equipment during the current fiscal year. Panasonic pumps are produced at the Hikone Factory in Shiga Prefecture and distributed globally.
