Samsung unveils next-gen Hylex heat pump for U.S. Northeast heating

Samsung HVAC North America LLC unveiled the next generation of its Hylex electric heat pump system, positioned to deliver reliable heating performance in cold and variable climates while supporting the Northeast’s shift toward electrification. The company said the system is engineered to help address efficiency, comfort and sustainability goals without sacrificing performance during colder months.

Samsung said Hylex is engineered with an inverter-driven compressor and designed for installation flexibility. For contractors, the company said the system is designed to simplify installation and reduce time on site, with support from the Hylex MPAH or Hylex A-Coil to enable a fully matched setup, or coil-only applications with major manufacturers through AHRI-listed system combinations. Existing line sets, piping, wiring and insulation can often be reused, according to the company.

For cold-climate operation, Samsung said Hylex delivers 100% heating capacity at temperatures as low as –4°F (–20°C) and continues with high heating operation down to –13°F (approx. –25°C). The company said the system can also be configured for dual-fuel operation, where the heat pump manages everyday heating needs while a secondary heat source supports extreme weather conditions.

Samsung also highlighted connected features, stating that Hylex is compatible with popular third-party thermostats while enabling SmartThings monitoring functions such as error notifications and outdoor unit energy data. When paired with a Samsung thermostat, the company said Hylex unlocks expanded SmartThings functionality, including AI-driven system optimization, geofencing and enhanced system insights.

For residential installation constraints, Samsung said Hylex has a compact footprint compared to traditional unitary systems, with a smaller size intended for zero-lot-line properties and wall-mount installation options. The company also cited quiet operation for dense residential environments.
