STULZ launches CyberRack SideCooler for edge and micro data centers

STULZ, a global specialist in mission critical air conditioning, has introduced the CyberRack SideCooler, a closed loop, water-cooled unit designed to meet the high-density cooling needs of edge and micro data centers, particularly in space-constrained or remote locations.

The CyberRack SideCooler can be installed between server racks or within a micro data center, delivering direct cooling at the heat source. Its compact design helps optimize space usage, while front and rear service access simplifies maintenance. Hot-swappable fans allow for safe and uninterrupted replacement during operation.

According to Matteo Foroni, Product Manager at STULZ S.p.A., the increasing use of high performance computing, AI and machine learning at the edge has raised server power densities and associated heat loads. “Space within these environments is often restricted, so we’ve designed the CyberRack SideCooler to provide maximum cooling capacity with minimal footprint,” he said. The unit is compatible with all rack types and supports multiple airflow concepts.

The system delivers cooling through three horizontal zones, ensuring consistent airflow and supply air temperature within the rack. This helps prevent hotspots without overcooling, supporting high water temperatures and extended use of free cooling. It can also operate in tandem with the STULZ CyberCool Explorer WS chiller for improved efficiency.

Energy efficiency is supported by intelligent control systems and electronically commutated (EC) fan and motor technology, along with low noise emissions. The unit offers optional touchscreen control, integration with building management systems, and features such as alarm and warning systems to enhance reliability.

“Edge and micro data centers come with their own set of challenges, especially when it comes to cooling and managing varying thermal loads,” added Foroni. “This is why we’ve pushed the boundaries once again with the CyberRack SideCooler – a next generation climate control solution that’s as robust, flexible and versatile as it is energy efficient.”
