Thermo King introduced its new SG-3500 generator set for marine reefers

Thermo King introduced its new SG-3500 generator set for marine reefers. Designed to deliver reliable and cost-efficient source of power, the SG-3500 features a high-performance engine tested to run consistently between temperature ranges of -40°C and +50°C (-40°F and +122°F). The genset is available in clip-on and undermount versions and can power all ISO reefers thanks to its 24.4 horsepower engine.

The new Thermo King SG-3500 delivers noise and emissions reduction compared to the SG-3000 model, which makes it one of the quietest and most sustainable gensets available on the market. Customers in North America, Europe and other regions can benefit from its leading cost efficiency and future proof their operations thanks to EPA Tier 4 Final, NRMM Stage V and 7-year CARB compliance*. The unit also incorporates a stable voltage control to intelligently regulate power and keep it within limits set by ISO1496.

“Thermo King generator sets perform a critical role in international refrigerated transport. Built to be reliable, sturdy, and cost-effective to run – these technologies power refrigerated containers and ensure temperature-sensitive cargoes is kept at the right condition throughout the journey,” said Terence O’Shea, genset product manager at Thermo King. “Compliance continues to be a key consideration for any cold chain operator. We made sure that by investing in SG-3500 our customers are future ready and are meeting their long-term expectations without the need for expensive re-fitting.”

The SG-3500 comes with a robust steel frame to offer strong protection. Tested in the hardest of test environments, the product has demonstrated its ability to operate in both climatic and vibrational extremes – on the seas, on the road, and across rail operations. The performance of the unit is managed with an easy-to-use controller, which offers simple and intuitive interface with features like pre-heat function, pre-trip functionality, alarms and advanced diagnostics including self-check capabilities.

For additional visibility into the unit’s performance, the Thermo King SG-3500 also includes a telematics option. This offers the customers detailed insights into a wide range of key operational metrics including:

  • GPS location and geofencing capabilities
  • Fuel monitoring even when the generator set is turned off
  • Fuel alerts highlighting any sudden drop in fuel levels, or those units leaving depots without sufficient fuel
  • Continuous monitoring of battery voltage levels for units turned on or off
  • Total run hours for planning periodic maintenance schedules
  • Engine load percentage to be confident a reefer is fully connected and working
  • Insight into genset’s parameters showing whether the units are turned on or off, engine RPM, output voltage and frequency.

The SG-3500 unit is backed up with Thermo King’s international dealer network offering technical, service and parts support at over 500 service points in 75 countries.
