The conference organized by Centro Studi Galileo and ATF within the 43rd Mostra Convegno Expocomfort on March 13th and 14th brought together over two hundred attendees for a crucial discussion on the new European Regulation on F-Gases. The event sparked a constructive debate between institutions, companies, and trade associations, shedding light on the implications and challenges of the new regulation.
The two sessions of the conference provided a platform for direct engagement with key stakeholders, including representatives from the European Commission and the Ministry for the Environment and Energy Security. Mr. Marco Buoni, CEO of Centro Studi Galileo, Secretary of ATF, and Past President of AREA, presented a position paper to Mr. Domenico Belli (MASE), outlining proposals from industry associations regarding the implementation of the new F-Gas Regulation in Italy.
Key points of discussion included ensuring continuity in repairs and maintenance of existing systems, preventing refrigerant shortages in critical sectors, and combating illegal trafficking. Representatives from prominent organizations in the HVAC/R sector, such as IIF-IIR, EPEE, Eurovent, and AHRI, participated in the event, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between industry, associations, and government bodies.
The debate was enriched by insights from Mrs. Bente Tranholm-Schwarz (European Commission DG Clima) and Mr. Stephen Yurek (AHRI), offering contrasting perspectives on the regulation's impact and implications. While Mrs. Tranholm-Schwarz highlighted the progressive reduction of HFCs and enhanced enforcement measures under the new regulation, Mr. Yurek expressed concerns about potential unintended consequences and advocated for a measured approach to sustainability.
The conference, conducted in Italian and English with simultaneous translation services, underscored the significance of proactive dialogue and collaboration in navigating the complexities of the evolving regulatory landscape. As stakeholders continue to adapt to the requirements of the F-Gas Regulation, ongoing engagement and cooperation will be essential to achieve sustainable outcomes.
