ASERCOM Convention 2025 Explores RACHP Industry Trends and Innovations

The ASERCOM Convention 2025, held on 24 January in Brussels, brought together industry experts to discuss key developments in the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump (RACHP) sector. The event focused on policy, market trends, and industry challenges, with a strong emphasis on digitalisation and regulatory shifts.

Advancing Connectivity with Single Pair Ethernet

A key announcement was ASERCOM’s partnership with the Single Pair Ethernet System Alliance to promote the adoption of Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) technology. SPE facilitates cost-efficient data and power transmission over a single copper wire pair, improving cybersecurity, bandwidth, and sustainability.

Simon Seereiner, Chairman of the System Alliance, described SPE as a “game-changer for Industry 4.0.” Dr. Christian Ellwein, Co-Lead of ASERCOM’s Electronics Working Group, highlighted its role in ensuring secure digitalisation and communication within the RACHP sector.

Expansion of Working Groups and New Initiatives

ASERCOM continues to expand its activities, with its Steering Committee broadening the scope of the ESG and Refrigerant Working Groups to address emerging regulatory challenges. “ASERCOM made significant strides in 2024, yet its journey continues. The Steering Committee has expanded the scope of the ESG and Refrigerant Working Groups to address emerging regulatory challenges. A new Working Group is also in development to broaden market coverage,” said Marco Masini, ASERCOM president.

The Electronics Working Group introduced a new service: Electronic Data Sheets for Modbus, designed to address inconsistencies in the widely used Modbus protocol. Additionally, ASERCOM is set to launch a refrigerant properties tool developed in collaboration with IPU, specialists in advanced product and process technology.

Regulatory and Market Trends

The convention also covered policy developments, including ASERCOM’s branding efforts, the EU’s political agenda, and fair competition in the RACHP sector. Key discussions included the impact of new F-Gas regulations and the proposed universal PFAS ban.

Market insights highlighted innovations in heat pumps, cybersecurity, and grid stability as critical factors for future RACHP applications. With a focus on sustainability and digital transformation, the ASERCOM Convention 2025 provided a platform for shaping the industry’s direction in the coming years.
