BESA Unveils 2024 Industry Awards Shortlist Amid Record Entries
The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA) has announced the shortlist for its 2024 Industry Awards after receiving a record number of entries.

The awards, which were free to enter, recognize outstanding contributions by individuals, teams, and companies in delivering exceptional projects, products, innovations, and initiatives within the building services engineering sector. Winners will be revealed at the BESA Awards dinner on October 17, held at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London, following the Association’s Annual Conference at the same venue earlier that day.

Sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric, the gala event will be hosted by celebrity compere Tom Ward and is also backed by CIBSE and the Installer Show.

This year, the awards attracted over 100 entries and introduced several new categories, including Retrofit Project of the Year, highlighting the growing emphasis on refurbishing existing buildings to meet net zero targets and enhance occupant health and well-being.

The heightened focus on training and skills development led to the inauguration of the Training Provider of the Year Award for BESA’s training partners. This complements the new Competence and Compliance category, which underscores the industry's commitment to elevating professional standards and ensuring compliance with increasingly stringent regulations.

The 2024 awards also continue BESA’s tradition of recognizing emerging talent within the industry, including the introduction of the Rising Star of the Year award, which honors impressive young engineers from BESA member companies.

Entries were also received for the relaunched Manly Trust Management Training Award, designed to support a promising individual demonstrating strong leadership potential.

While some awards are exclusive to BESA members, many are open to the entire building services sector to provide a comprehensive representation of industry expertise. There are categories covering outstanding projects, firms, and individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry. These categories span the full supply chain, from manufacturers and distributors to contractors, engineers, and clients, reflecting the sector’s commitment to addressing current challenges such as building safety, indoor air quality, and diversity.

The judging panel, composed of experts from across the sector, includes current BESA President Claire Curran and President-elect Adrian Hurley, as well as young engineers from BESA’s NextGen Network.
