A CIBSE delegation attended the ASHRAE Winter Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, US, where it hosted a technical seminar and a drinks reception for building services professionals from around the world. The delegation included 2025/26 President Vince Arnold, CEO Ruth Carter, and Technical Director Dr Anastasia Mylona, along with Hannah Gray, winner of the 2025 CIBSE ASHRAE Graduate of the Year award.
The seminar, titled Cracking the Carbon Code: Practical paths to net-zero MEP systems, focused on the challenges and opportunities of decarbonising building services on a global scale. Chaired by Dr Anastasia Mylona, the session guided more than 100 attendees from strategic understanding to practical application.
Content covered an overview of decarbonisation evaluation at scale, including investor expectations and market trends, followed by an introduction to CIBSE’s TM65 methodology for estimating embodied carbon in MEP systems. The session also included a project-based case study of a net-zero municipal building and concluded with perspectives on measuring and making meaningful carbon reductions in future projects.
During the conference, the CIBSE delegation met with Bill McQuade, 2025/26 ASHRAE President, and other industry leaders. The reception also marked achievements during the event, including recognition of Hannah Gray’s award-winning work.
