HMI, the leading international trade show, will be taking place from April 22 - 26, 2024 in Hanover in Germany. ebm papst will be located at booth C50 in hall 7 and will be showcasing how the future can be shaped in harmony with the values of our time. The company will present pioneering application solutions and smart, innovative approaches to efficient air technology, as well as high-speed, oil-free turbo compressors from the HighSpeed segment.

Retrofits at the company's sites reduce footprint

ebm papst is taking another step toward Scope 1 and 2 climate neutrality by retrofitting the refrigeration and air conditioning systems at its German sites. The initiative was started in 2023 and is still ongoing. It involves replacing 261 ventilation and refrigeration systems to enable energy savings of between 10 and 50 percent in each case, depending on which type of fan is currently installed. In addition to the savings generated by replacing the hardware itself, the ability to network the equipment with the digital world is also making a real difference. To achieve this, the new fans are being connected to the company's own cloud platform via gateways from ebm papst neo. This solution collects relevant data points, analyses them, and then derives value-adding measures ranging from predictive maintenance and additional data-based energy savings from demand-driven operation to improved availability and automated data exports for ESG reporting.

Switching to more intelligence

Algorithms learn from user behavior, building characteristics, and environmental conditions, which helps to create an optimized indoor eco-system. This is also the case at Sweden's housing cooperatives – the fan only delivers the amount of air that is required and adapts the air flow, even at low temperatures, in order to minimize the amount of energy drawn and optimize previous inefficient roof ventilation systems. As a result, only the smallest possible amount of heated air is extracted from the building.
The companies Cabero and Heidinger, which produce, install, and operate products including condensers, are also benefiting from ebm papst's digital services. The integrated system monitoring function detects anomalies, potential for optimization, and contamination at an early stage in order to prevent problems further down the line, plan the service in advance, and ensure smooth operation. Demand-driven cleaning forecasts prevent unexpected service interruptions and avoid unnecessary downtime. ebm papst's project specialists will be on hand at the trade show booth to provide further details about all these data-driven projects.

Compact high-speed turbo compressors

ebm papst has expertise from a wide range of ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration applications and applies its core expertise in aerodynamics, electric motors, and electronics to actively drive megatrends such as climate neutrality. For this reason, the Mulfingen-based specialists have expanded their product portfolio to include high-speed, oil-free turbo compressors for different air and gas mixtures. The turbo compressors are very compact and run in the respective medium without generating any vibrations, which means they do not need lubricant that could contaminate the refrigerant circuit, for example. The gas bearing, which is not subject to contact or friction during operation, not only achieves a long service life but also has impressively low noise levels. The turbo compressors are used in the refrigerant circuit, heat pumps, self-contained drinking water systems, and gas supply systems for fuel cells, for example.
